The Issue

As a property owner and community member of White County, Indiana, I am deeply concerned about the proposed construction and development of industrial solar fields in our area. Our county is home to some of the finest farmland in the state - land that will be taken out of production if these plans proceed.  Indiana is one of only 3 states that has more than 50% of its farmground classified as "prime".  The impact on our community would be profound and irreversible.   The financial benefits from solar fields will be claimed by a few select landowners and companies not owned by Hoosier or even U.S. entities, while the sacrifices are made by the residents of White County without any opportunity for our voices to be heard.  The ethics of these "back room deals" are questionable to say to least.

Our local homeowners face devaluation of their properties and loss of rural views that have been part of their lives for generations. The jobs provided by local agribusinesses are at risk due to lost acreage. This not only threatens individual livelihoods but also jeopardizes the economic stability of our community.

Moreover, this project poses a significant threat to our rural culture, county identity, and future economic and residential development.  The transformation from lush farmland to industrial solar fields will irrevocably alter the character and identity we hold dear.  Our small communities and houses in White County will become land-locked by these vast industrial areas.

The potential environmental impacts cannot be overlooked either. Wildlife that depend on these lands for food sources and habitat space will find themselves displaced with fewer and fewer places to survive.

We urge you to consider these factors carefully before allowing such drastic changes to take place in White County, Indiana. We must prioritize preserving our agricultural heritage, protecting homeowner interests, safeguarding jobs, maintaining our rural and small-town culture, and conserving wildlife habitats over short-term industrial gains.

We owe it to our predecessors to preserve and protect our heritage.  My lovely aunt, Alberta Ade, served this community at The Farmers State Bank for nearly 50 years, and loved the people and land of this community and taught me to do so also.  Our neighbors, Becky, Levi, Jacqueline, and Samantha Chitty (along with Baby Walter), have also dedicated their lives to this area, along with their beloved husband and father, Walt.  Like you, we understand the importance of being good stewards of the land, as opposed to exchanging this responsibility for a short-sighted, self-serving business gain.

Please sign this petition today – let's stand together against the construction and development of industrial solar fields in White County!
