As residents of the small town of Brooklyn, CT, we value the rural tranquility of our area. We chose to live here for the space and acreage it offers, the rarity of such spaces in New England, and the balance it strikes between the serenity of the country and proximity to our places of work. Today, this balance is threatened by increasing development, particularly on Tatnic Hill Road. The implications of these developments are far-reaching, affecting not just the immediate neighborhood, but the overall health of our town.

There appears to be no plan in place for the handling of our one-lane road conditions, or for the care of the existing roads leading to the development. These roads are already in a state of disrepair, and more traffic will worsen their condition. Additionally, with more families moving in, the town is facing a foreseeable increase in high school costs, placing undue financial strain on our community. Our elementary school, too, is bordering on overcapacity, a concern that seems to have been sidelined.

Rural New England towns, like ours, are precious spaces, rare in their offer of both work and peace. Unplanned development can hurt the infrastructure and the charm of these spaces irreparably. Sign this petition, protect the character of our town, and stop the development of Tatnic Hill Road.
