Halt Funding for Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and Advocate for Sanctuary Rights

Halt Funding for Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and Advocate for Sanctuary Rights
The Issue
I am deeply moved to petition for this cause as I firmly believe in every animal's right to live with dignity and respect. The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a well-known tourist attraction in Sri Lanka, has fallen under heavy criticism for their handling of elephants. These innocent creatures, supposedly rescued and taken into care, seem to experience a reality far from the freedom and safety they deserve. Elephants at this facility are chained, restricted from their natural behaviours and exploited – a treatment no animal should endure.
According to a study conducted by the National Geographic Society in 2014, elephants are highly intelligent and emotional creatures that thrive in their natural habitats where they can roam freely and engage with other elephants. Their well-being suffers when exposed to constant stress, confinement and poor treatment - something concerning around the situations in places like Pinnawala.
We appeal to the relevant governing bodies, the wildlife conservation charities, and animal lovers worldwide to cease support and funding for such places. We insist on the immediate release of all elephants currently residing in Pinnawala to accredited sanctuaries where they can live out their lives in peace, without chains, without undue stress, and with the freedom and care they deserve.
It's time to advocate for a holistic change in animal welfare standards and insist on more accountability for such facilities. Let's give voice to those who cannot speak and fight for their right to live in peace. Please sign our petition and join us in this fight against animal cruelty. Your signature could make a significant difference to these elephants' lives.
