The Issue

Despite being a meeting to address the urgent issue of Climate Change, the COP 30 climate summit is ironically planning to host its event in a location carved out of the invaluable Amazon Rainforest. This deforestation has been detrimental to both the local environment and countless indigenous species. The Amazon is often referred to as the "lungs of the planet" due to its crucial role in absorbing carbon dioxide and providing oxygen. It is also home to over 400 billion individual trees representing more than 16,000 species (source: WWF). Removing such a critical aspect of our ecosystem for a temporary event, particularly one designed to tackle the very issue this action exacerbates, is not only hypocritical but perilously shortsighted. We are insisting that the felling of the Amazon Rainforest for the COP 30 summit be permanently halted and forests already fallen be replanted. It's vital for preserving biodiversity, countering climate change, and showing genuine commitment to addressing environmental concerns. Please sign this petition and join us in insisting upon a sustainable and responsible approach to our urgent climate dialogues.
