Halt Deforestation and Restore Kancha Gachhi

Halt Deforestation and Restore Kancha Gachhi
The Issue
My heart breaks a thousand miles away from Kancha Gachhi forest near Hyderabad, as I hear tales of the roar of bulldozers disfiguring the area, of 400 acres of vibrant greenery reduced to a barren landscape, of peacocks crying out in frightened protest. This tragedy is not confined to a local problem. It is an untimely gutting of nature's abundance, a reckless endangerment of majestic elephants grappling with encroachment and of peacocks losing their homes in real time.
Kancha Gachhi forest forms a vital ecosystem. It's not just about the wildlife, it's about an essential part of our environmental health and ecological balance. According to FAO's Global Forest Resource Assessment 2020, the world is seeing an overall decrease in deforestation rates - but this is not a justification for local devastations like what's happening in Kancha Gachhi. Every unique forest ecosystem is irreplaceable and has a lasting impact on biodiversity, air quality, and climate.
We demand the Telangana Government takes immediate and strict action in ending this brutal deforestation. It is their obligation to protect this land from illegal encroachments and corrupt officials who choose personal gain over the survival of the forest. We urge you to implement a strong forest restoration plan and to safeguard the biodiversity in Kancha Gachhi.
This is not just a matter of preserving natural beauty. It's a testament to our commitment to the air we breathe, the legacy we leave behind, our moral responsibility to protect and coexist with wildlife. Time is not on our side, but the power of our collective voices can bring about change.
Join me from wherever you are in the world, because we are fighting not just for Kancha Gachhi, but for our shared global legacy. Protect Kancha Gachhi, protect our future. Please sign and share this petition. The life we save may be our own.
