The Issue

As a resident living along the greenbelt where the Garlic Creek South trail has been proposed, I share the concerns voiced by my neighbors. Prioritizing our safety and respect for our community, we seek an immediate halt to this project. The shocking lack of communication - no notifications were delivered to our homeowners' association or us - and absence of opportunity for us to express our concerns is unacceptable.

The location proposed for the trail skirts alarmingly close to our residential boundaries, impacting our lifestyle and potentially endangering our safety. As reported by the National Safety Council, accidents involving pedestrians around construction areas across the nation increased by an alarming 69% last year, and we fear that this project puts us in a similar risk category (National Safety Council, 2021).

Moreover, the potential drainage issues likely to develop pose a serious environmental risk. Unchecked water flow can lead to soil erosion, compaction, and habitat destruction - negative impacts that would affect not just the residents but the entire local ecosystem, which we heavily invested in conserving by choosing these lots.

We are not against neighborhood development. However, we ask for transparency, safety, and consideration of our views. We request the responsible authorities to pause the project, notify all relevant stakeholders, and conduct a thorough public consultation meeting. Our neighborhood deserves to be heard, and our safety deserves to be protected. We urge you to sign this petition as a significant step in safeguarding our rights and our neighborhood.
