Halt Commercial Animal Sales in Muskingum County, Ohio

The Issue

As an individual who has seen first-hand the distressing effects of commercial animal sales in Muskingum County, Ohio, I am urging for your support to put an end to this practice. In our county and many others across Ohio, animal shelters are operating beyond their capacities due to the unregulated sale of dogs.

Ohio has more puppy mills (high-volume, substandard dog breeding facilities) on the Humane Society's Horrible Hundred list than any other state. These poorly run mills contribute to the overpopulation problem, causing undue strain on shelters and rescue groups. According to the ASPCA, over 3.3 million dogs enter shelters every year in the United States, many of which are purchased on impulse and then abandoned.

Many of these animals are the victims of unregulated commercial sales, originating from breeders who prioritize profits over the welfare of the animals. They are then discarded when they become inconvenient or when their owners are unable to provide for their needs. This inhumane cycle must be stopped.

By signing this petition, we can take the vital first step to implement regulations on commercial animal sales, ensuring better treatment for animals, reducing the burden on our shelters, and creating a more humane Ohio for all animals. Your signature signifies your support in ending this detrimental cycle. Please, sign this petition today.
