Halt Chiltern Railways' Nightly Train Idling Practice

Halt Chiltern Railways' Nightly Train Idling Practice
The Issue
The residents of Aylesbury are breathing polluted air.
WATCH THE VIDEO:
What’s happening?
Every night Chiltern Railways disturb the local residents by leaving their trains to idle between the hours of 9pm and 5am.
This practice is not only a cause of constant noise and vibration, but it is noticeably polluting the air and jeopardising the health of local residents like me and my neighbours.
To understand the seriousness of the matter, it is important to acknowledge that prolonged exposure to noise pollution can lead to various health problems such as sleep disturbances, cardiovascular issues, poorer work and school performance, and hearing impairments (source: WHO). Moreover, the idling of diesel locomotives also emits a significant amount of air pollutants including nitrogen oxide, sulfur compounds, and particulate matter. These pollutants have severe effects on lung health and can lead to respiratory issues (source: EPA).
In addition to the health effects, idling trains waste fuel and contribute unnecessarily to greenhouse gas emissions, which escalates climate change. It is reported that an idling diesel engine could burn around a gallon of fuel per hour (source: American Public Transportation Association). These cumulative negative impacts from idling trains are unacceptable and not to be overlooked.
This petition is an urgent cry for Chiltern Railways to take immediate action to halt this harmful nightly practice. Ceasing this activity will not only provide immediate relief from noise pollution for local residents but also contribute significantly towards cleaner air and a healthier environment for everyone in the vicinity. Please sign this petition in support of our right to a peaceful night and a pollution-free environment.
