Halt Charleston County's Fast Lane to a Concrete Jungle

Halt Charleston County's Fast Lane to a Concrete Jungle
The Issue
As residents of Charleston County, we all value our beautiful Lowcountry landscape. But County Council plans to pass an amendment that would permanently alter this landscape.
They want to exempt roadway development from both the Site Plan Review and Tree Ordinance - Consider that....the County wants to exempt itself from it's own rules and bypass the process that everyone else is subject to.
Here’s the proposed amendment: :
- “Exempt Charleston County Public Works projects within all existing and proposed easements and rights-of-way dedicated to public use from the requirements of the Site Plan Review process.
- Exempt Charleston County Public Works (CCPW) from the tree protection requirements except Sec. 9.2.3, Tree Plans and Surveys, when the requested trees are presented and approved for removal by Charleston County Council for CCPW initiated projects.”
What does this mean to you?
- It will negatively effect your property values.
- It will destroy thousands of grand trees that define our home.
- It takes away public and expert review of critical infrastructure projects.
We need to improve our roads. We also need to preserve the unique character and natural beauty of where we live. This is a delicate balance. This proposed amendment would eliminate any semblance of balance in favor of roads at any cost.
This isn't progress. It's destruction.
Sign this petition today to request that Charleston County Council reject the proposed changes to their zoning ordinance to allow the Charleston County Public Works department to bypass the grand tree removal and site plan review processes.
Let’s improve our roads AND save the grand trees and preserve the charm and beauty of the Lowcountry forever!
