Halt Blue Origin's Tourist Flights for Comprehensive Environmental Review

Halt Blue Origin's Tourist Flights for Comprehensive Environmental Review

The Issue

As individuals who are deeply concerned about our planet and its delicate atmosphere, we highlight a recent incident. On April 14, 2025, Blue Origin, a leading spaceline company, launched yet another non-scientific tourist flight. While these flights have, no doubt, an adventurous appeal, they pose significant risks to our already endangered environment and ozone layer. It is alarming that non-essential flights are allowed to proceed freely without thorough environmental impact reviews.

Yearly, rocket launches contribute to a growing percentage of global black carbon emissions. According to the European Space Agency, a single rocket launch can release up to 500 tons of black carbon into the atmosphere, significantly more than traditional airliners. This persistent introduction of pollutants into the atmosphere will have a drastic effect on the ozone layer, increasing the atmospheric temperature by 3 degrees Celsius, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

We call upon the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the entities responsible for ensuring safety of our atmosphere, to take robust measures in regulating commercial space tourism. We insist that non-essential launches by companies like Blue Origin be suspended until a complete and comprehensive environmental review is performed. Failure to implement a prudent approach will only put our Earth at further risk.

We urge those who share our concerns to sign this petition. Together, we can halt these space joyrides until we fully understand potential repercussions on our precious atmosphere. Please sign to support this call.
