I am a resident of General Trias, Cavite and a proud dog owner. My pets are more than just animals; they are family. The love I have for them is immeasurable, which is why it breaks my heart to witness the ongoing animal abuse and killing in our community.

Animal cruelty is not only morally wrong but also against the law under Republic Act No. 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 in the Philippines. Yet, despite this legislation, many animals continue to suffer at the hands of those who disregard their rights.

Recent reports indicate that there has been an alarming increase in cases of animal abuse within our locality (source: local news outlets). These innocent creatures are subjected to unimaginable pain and suffering every day - a reality that we cannot ignore any longer.

It's time we take action. We must urge our local government officials to enforce stricter penalties for animal abusers and provide better protection for these defenseless beings. Let us remember that animals have feelings too; they feel pain just as we do.
