Petition to Maintain the Entire Bus Route 55 Port Wallace

The purpose of the petition is to maintain the portion of the 55 Port Wallace bus route that extends past the Charles Keating Drive, Montague Road, and Waverley Road intersection. This community has grown since the 2016 survey that was the basis for the elimination of that portion of the Port Wallace Bus route.  Since the community has and will continue to grow, it will leave even more adults and youth with literally no public transportation. Our community members need to travel to work, school, athletic endeavors, volunteering, and many other activities, including tending to basic life necessities such as getting groceries. This community has unlimited potential. Please don't put this severe limit on us.

Waverley Road is a winding, dangerous road.  There are no sidewalks, bike lanes, nor plans to make these additions.  There have been many tragic accidents on this road over the years. People rely on the bus to get themselves safely to their destination. Canceling this portion of the service is putting our community members at higher risk. How much is a life worth?

Not only will the proposed modification eliminate service to community members, but it will also negatively impact the citizens of Craigburn Drive.  The change will turn our quiet, essentially larger cul-de-sac community into a noisy, high traffic, high hazard street.  The narrow, curving streets combined with fast-moving large buses along with only a partial sidewalk on one side will pose additional hazards to our community members, especially our youth attempting to travel to our well-used parks.  Craigburn Drive was not designed for bus traffic thoroughfare.  It is safest for everyone for the bus route to remain the same.

Page two of Metro Transit's proposed Service Adjustments report 2020/21 suggested a $3,000 savings. If you think the cost to the benefit of this change is unacceptable, then this is the time to stand up for the people within our community!  Please sign this petition to maintain the current bus route 55 Port Wallace.
