The Issue

To: Halifax Regional Council,

Like many others across the province, we at Hockey Nova Scotia have been beaming with pride all week following Sidney Crosby’s Stanley Cup-winning performance on Sunday night.

Shortly after the victory, Sidney’s former coach Paul Mason suggested that Forest Hills Parkway in Cole Harbour be re-named in honour of the community’s most famous son.

We, the undersigned, fully support this proposal.

At just 28, Sidney is one of the most-decorated and accomplished hockey players of all-time. Already, his trophy case includes two Olympic gold medals, a Conn Smythe Trophy, two Harts, three Lester B. Pearson/Ted Lindsay Awards, a Rocket Richard Trophy and now, of course, a pair of Stanley Cups. It’s a truly impressive collection.

Sidney is an ambassador of his sport who always conducts himself with both class and humility.

But Sidney is much more than just a hockey player. He is also a tremendous role model to the young and old alike, an outstanding community supporter and a proud Nova Scotian. In recent years, Sidney has made considerable donations to the IWK Health Centre as well as minor hockey associations across our province and he continues to support other worthy causes through The Sidney Crosby Foundation.

For these reasons, we believe Paul Mason’s suggestion is perfect: Forest Hills Parkway, a road which leads to the arena that Sidney grew up skating in, should be re-named in honour of one of our province’s great ambassadors, both on and off the ice.

Sincerely,

Everyone at Hockey Nova Scotia
