Restore the name "Dartmouth"
This petition had 2,778 supporters
In April 2014, members of HRM Council approved a new branding strategy that included dropping the name Halifax Regional Municipality. The legal name of the municipality has not changed but the region is now known as Halifax. Media reports at the time indicate that, as part of the branding strategy, individual communities will retain their respective names and that the region would now be promoted in a cohesive, strategic way.
One year later, the name “Dartmouth” is being removed from traditional Dartmouth landmarks, public park signage and in other ways.
This petition is for HRM Council to (1) ensure the name Dartmouth is visibly associated with landmarks such as the Dartmouth Common, Dartmouth Waterfront, Dartmouth Ferry, Sullivan's Pond, Burnside and City of Lakes business parks, Downtown Dartmouth, and others (3) ensure the name Dartmouth is visibly associated with Dartmouth-specific policies and legislation, such as the Dartmouth Municipal Planning Strategy and Dartmouth Land Use By-law, and (4) ensure that those entering Dartmouth are greeted with "Welcome to Dartmouth" signage.
