"Ban Disposable Barbecues"

The Issue

Disposable barbecues are responsible for so much environmental damage. They litter our parks, beaches and forests. They have to be sent to landfill and more importantly they are the cause of so many fires. Recently 480 acres of protected woodland in Dorset was destroyed by careless visitors and their disposable barbecues. Thousands of creatures were killed leaving a blackened desolate area which will take years and years to recover.

Adults and children risk injury on our beaches when inconsiderate people bury used portable barbecues in the sand rather than taking them home to dispose of.

Our brave fire fighters risk their lives weekly throughout the summer months putting out fires these cheap barbecues have caused. Enough is enough - now is the time for the Government to place a ban on the sale of these BBQs or at the very least ban them from use in any public place.

So much of our glorious countryside is already under so much pressure from building, an increasing population and global warming that the least that we can do is save it from destruction by something that we don't actually need!
