The issue

My family and I live in the large country town of Gympie, in rural Qld.  We have been instructed by our local council to remove our 3 beautiful hens from our property.  We are on a largish corner residential block.  Apparently, our block is not big enough to hold ANY poultry and yet, if it were a little larger, we could keep up to 20 hens!  To me, this makes no sense AT ALL!  I am starting this petition in an attempt to change this stupid local law, so as to allow people to keep chickens in their backyards.   I find it ridiculous that such restrictions on landsize are not made for dogs, even large dogs, and yet our three hens are not allowed.

I despise caged egg farms and am annoyed and upset at the fact that our family can't keep our three hens, who are well-behaved, usually quiet, very entertaining, provide us with delicious free-range eggs, and most importantly are our pets and my children and I adore them as such.

Please sign my petition to make the Gympie Regional Council make the common-sense decision to change the local law and allow the keeping of a few hens in a backyard.
