Why this petition matters
First ever survey conducted by the Ministry of Environment of South Korea found that there are 719 dog farms breeding more than 100,000 dogs in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.
Four out of ten dog farms were breeding 100 to 500 dogs and there were five places that were breeding over 1000 dogs. 216 tons of excrement are produced per day, but it cannot be determined to where 25 tons of this excrement is deposited. Proper food and clean water are not provided to the countless dogs suffering in the meat dog breeding farms across South Korea. The dogs are treated so cruelly because the meat dog breeding farmers believe it is the dogs’ fate to die soon anyway, so why should they be treated humanely?
The dogs, faced with unbearable thirst and hunger, are forced to eat spoiled and decomposing food garbage. These dogs endure daily the cruel fate of being trapped in small raised wire cages, trying to fight off all kinds of diseases while existing in constant terror of being killed.
The unauthorized collection of food garbage and then feeding the garbage to the dogs in the meat dog breeding farms is in violation of the Control of Livestock and Fish Feed Act. Therefore, we are asking the Gyeongsangbuk-do province to conduct a complete investigation into food garbage being supplied to meat dog breeding farms. Only you can end the anguish and torment of these dogs. Please join us in our effort to end their suffering.
