Stop the Gandhi Statue at Bryson Park in Lilburn, GA

Stop the Gandhi Statue at Bryson Park in Lilburn, GA
Why this petition matters

The Gwinnett County Parks Foundation, Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Directors and the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved the installation of a controversial statue of Gandhi and planting of 100 fruit/nut trees at Bryson Park in Lilburn, Georgia without placing it before the general public for comments.
After the donation of the statue and trees,Gwinnett taxpayer dollars will have to maintain this big project.
- Was there an environmental impact study one? No.
- Was this project brought before the citizens and residents of Lilburn, GA? No.
- Why was the project secretly pushed through without the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners knowing anything about it on 9/24/2019 with the project unveiling scheduled for October 19, 2019?
- How is it that Ben Ku, Marlene Fosque - the newly elected commissioners -- were the only ones to respond to us on 9/24/2019 to say "this project has never been before the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners"?
- Why is it that this project miraculously appears on the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners agenda for approval (closed door) on October 1, 2019 for a project that the grounds are ready for the October 19, 2019 installation?
- Why did Ben Ku send citizens of Gwinnett a response on October 7, 2019 saying "The United Nations recognizes Gandhi and Gwinnett County will too."? WTF
- Why is there a cover-up of documentation on the Gwinnett County website -- official legal documents being edited -- discrepancies in dates, verbage, etc.?
- Why are the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on the defensive?
- Why has Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation and Gwinnett County Parks Foundation (a 501c3 non-profit who has absolutely nothing to do with county government business) approved this project?
- Why as Lilburn, GA, a location with a median household income of over $50,000, with Kroger, Publix, Walmart, a farmer's market less than .50 miles from Bryson Park, need a Food Forest? A food forest is for a 'food desert' -- a place that does not have access to fruits and vegetables and a place where there are POOR people? If you want to commemorate Gandhi, put a food forest in an underserved community that does not have access to fruits and vegetables within 1/2 of a mile!!!!!!!!~
- And we have many, many more questions.
- Why Gandhi in Lilburn, when there is a huge Indian temple sitting on many, many acres that does not allow regular Gwinnett citizens to visit but has acreage that can easily house a statue of Gandhi and a food forest?
- Why is the commemoration to Gandhi being place literally RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from a Muslim Mosque?
This project MUST BE STOP!!!!
Additionally, Gandhi statues are being removed around the world because of his now revealed racist views about Africans. We MUST STOP THIS PROJECT.
