To the almost 20,000 people who signed this petition, thank you! You did your part to let the world know that Guy Phillips does not represent Scottsdale.
Now, we must finish the job. Guy Phillips was expected to be one of the top vote getters in the primary, but instead you helped push him to 5th place out of 9 candidates. Unfortunately the top six moved on to the general election, so our work is not done. If you are a Scottsdale resident, you MUST not vote for Guy Phillips. I will not endorse specific candidates, but we must make sure that Guy Phillips is NOT re-elected.
A man that holds an anti-mask rally in the middle of a global pandemic, who mocks the dying words of a Black man, and who stood by as his fellow protesters waived confederate flags is NOT fit to serve.
I also want to draw your attention to another important race - the Arizona state senate race for LD 23. Our current state senator, Michelle Ugenti-Rita was a guest speaker at Guy Phillips' rally. She is a threat to public health. A short time after the rally, Ugenti-Rita created a facebook group that claimed to support our public schools. After initially calling it SUSD United and conning many people to signe up, she changed the name of the group to: SUSD K-12 Community Forum for Full Reopen. She uses this forum to spread lies, Covid conspiracy theories, and misinformation that is only hurting our community.
She and her fellow pandemic deniers held protests, rallies, and "log outs" with no social distancing and no mask wearing in order to demand that the Scottsdale Unified School District re-opened, without regard to the safety of the students or teachers.
They banned anyone with a contray opinion in this group, and they posted inflamatory and negative misinformation about any school board member that was not on board with their plan.
This group, led by an elected offical, put enough pressure on the SUSD board, that they rushed a re-opening plan. Once the schools re-opened, they even planned a "School opening party" with zero social distancing or mask wearing.
If you care about the health and safety of our community, you MUST vote for Seth Blattman to replace Michelle Ugenti-Rita in the Arizona Senate.
