Pass/Fail Option For All Guilford county school students

Pass/Fail Option For All Guilford county school students
The Issue
Due to the spread of COVID-19, all schools in the Guilford county school district have been shut down, along with every other school systems, and has switched to e-learning. While this is a good idea to prevent the spread of the virus, it puts the students at an educational disadvantage. With strictly virtual classes, it makes things harder for students with internet problems, students who have learning disabilities and struggle with e-learning, and students who simply cannot learn through a screen. This will also affect the teachers, who struggle with technology or rely on speaking one-on-one to their students. All of these factors are the reasons I, and many other Smith high school students, think that smith should offer a pass/fail option for students, in which Guilford county schools should end the semester and promote all students with consent from parents, in other words parents should have the opportunity to choose if there child repeats the grade level or is promoted into the following grade, due to the fact that students have already been through almost a full school year, and the outbreak of the COVID-19 has made it impossible as of right now for students to finish the 2nd semester. If parents decide for their child to be promoted, Student’s should receive all their credits when promoted onto the next grade level.
