Schools to allow dyed hair

The purpose of this petition is to protest the recent change of rules regarding hair dye at Guildford High School.
The rule prior to this one enabled students to dye their hair within the natural colour spectrum. We have always had the understanding that the school wants to present a particular image of uniformity and do no object to the ban of non-natural colours for use in hair dye.
However, the new rule bans students outright from dying their hair and it has clearly specified within the rule change that those with pre-existing dyed hair will be expected to dye it back to its natural colour.
As many of those with hair that has undergone colouring are aware, re-colouring damages the hair further.
Therefore this rule is essentially forcing students who have dyed their hair lawfully within the previous rules to partake in damaging their hair unnecessarily.
Additionally, we struggle to accept this while the school hypocritically preaches self-expression and self-acceptance, as many of those who do dye their hair do so in reflection of these school values.
Furthermore, those who dye their hair within the natural colour spectrum should not be reprimanded doing so; as students are not adversely affected by a change of pigment in their hair whilst learning in a school environment.
Overall, our main objection to this rule change is not rooted within the superficial nature of ‘keeping up with trends’ but rather with the respect we believe the school should be required to give in regard to its students’ bodily autonomy.
With this petition, we aim to make the school reconsider this decision and realise that having the ability to dye our hair reflects the school’s values.
We would be grateful to anyone for supporting us by signing.
