The Issue
I am not personally gay, but I have friends who are. They live their lives openly and honestly, yet face constant discrimination and threats to their rights. It is time we take a stand against this injustice. We must stop politicians, regardless of party affiliation, from attempting to ban LGBTQ marriage in the United States. Marriage equality was established as a constitutional right by the Supreme Court in 2015 (Obergefell v. Hodges), and any attempt to undermine this ruling is an affront to our democracy.
Furthermore, we must address corporate discrimination against the LGBTQ community. Companies like Chick-Fil-A and Hobby Lobby have been accused of refusing employment opportunities based on sexual orientation - an act that goes against the principles of fairness and equality.
It's important to note that not all Republicans are opposed to same-sex marriage; however, there has been a concerning trend among some factions within the party aiming at restricting LGBTQ rights.
The fight for equal rights should be universal – it's about human dignity and respect for all individuals regardless of who they love or how they identify themselves.
