Most Senior Citizens superannuate at 60 years of age and begin their retired life. From that time they have two major concerns, namely, (1) how to make their life's savings earn enough returns to maintain a respectable standard of living in the face of increasing costs and (2) how to meet rising medical expenses.Hospital expenses are invariably covered by health insurance policies. Insurance companies tend to steeply jack up the premiums for the insured when they cross 65 years and when the insured begin lodging insurance claims. Under such circumstances, slapping an 18% GST on already inflated  insurance premiums is like rubbing salt into the wound.Many senior citizens were forced to go for lower sum assured when they found their premiums increased last year with an 18% GST. This is an appeal to the GST Council to reduce the rate of GST on insurance premiums to 5% for senior citizens aged 60 to 75 years and exempt insurance premiums from GST for senior citizens over 75 years.
