Groupon, update your security and protect people from theft!
The Issue
My boyfriend, a techy type, opened his email to find that *suprise* he had just purchased TWO iphones and TWO play stations from GROUPON.com for a grand total of about $2000. One PS4 had already gone through and is shown. Being techy, he was able to find the issue and cancel the order right away. He said that other companies won't change your email until you've verified it, and won't send purchases to a new address until you've verified it. I know if it had been me, a slightly less techy type, I would have had more issues, since I don't keep on top of these things. And I know if it had been someone without my means it could have meant not putting food on the table for some kids, missing rent, homelessness, etc, which is the plight of people living paycheck to paycheck. Since then I've looked around and found that this happens to GROUPON quite regularly.

GROUPON, find out how these hackers are getting our money, and stop it! Sites that are able to store your credit card information should be required to have the security measures to prevent theft.
I sent some emails:
ME--My boyfriend was hacked. Please be aware of the situation and change your security measures.
REPLY--Sorry for any inconvenience. For security purposes, we are unable to modify anyone else's account without their direct consent. Please have the purchaser of this Groupon send this request in a separate email, using their email address associated with their Groupon account, to support@groupon.com. The sooner we hear from them, the better we can assist.
Thanks for understanding, and please let me know if I can help with anything else!
Regards,
Groupon Customer Support
ME--I'm not asking you to modify my boyfriend's account. He's a smart Techy type and he can take care of himself. I'm telling you that for the rest of us about to get hacked you need to do something to protect us. This person had their groupon addressed to a different address than usual. Amazon requires you to verify purchases with address changes and you should too. If I warn you that your site is breached and give a suggestion for what you should do and you do nothing and communicate nothing to your customers, and then if there's another "Target" at your site then I will be forced to advertise that I have given you a warning and you refused to help. Please involve the CEO of your company and address this security concern promptly before people are harmed. I'm not Techy, but I assure you my boyfriend knows what to do to ensure the word gets out, and he doesn't take having $400 stolen from him lightly. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just more concerned about people that can't afford to be robbed than I am about your feelings right now. Please involve the CEO immediately.
REPLY--I completely understand your situation!
Due to data protection reasons, I am unable to give out or change any information for anyone who is not the account holder. If you could ask your friend to contact us directly in reference to your email, I would be happy to help them out. Please provide them with the ticket reference number 36374931 and I can assist them straight away.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,Groupon Customer Support
I'm asking for global changes, these responses completely disregard the request and assume I care only for myself and not those most vulnerable to these security concerns.
