Auto plants need to be shut down to limit and contain the spread of the virus before it becomes an even bigger problem. Workers are working in close proximity to each other, sharing restrooms and break/lunch areas with no protection from close contact exposure. Cleaning and sterilizing will do nothing to fight against exposure from coughing/sneezing and the 10 foot range droplets travel before they are no longer airborne. Some facilities are still operating with no antibacterial soap or hot water in the bathrooms. The disinfecting and sterilization of entire plants is not practical nor will it ever actually be achieved. Hundreds walk through the same turnstiles and touch the same doors each shift, temperatures are not being monitored as employees enter and some of the jobs require employees to work within 2-3 feet of each other. The UAW has backed down from the original demand of plant closures and allowed these companies to continue running with positive COVID19 cases, facilitating the spread of the virus to employees and surrounding communities. We must act to stop profit and greed from controlling the outcome and put our health and this pandemic above the company's wants.
