Petition updateNick Greiner must front the WestConnex Inquiry

"WestCONnex should never have been approved or built"

The report from the Impact of the WestConnex project was released yesterday. Although it was a relief that the community was finally listened to, the recommendations are weak at best. Arguably the strongest statement is contained in the dissenting report from Cate Faehrmann:

"WestCONnex should never have been approved or built...

The committee heard compelling evidence of the benefit to other cities around the world which have chosen not to invest in new motorways and instead invested in reducing car use and improving public transport. If an assessment of alternatives to WestConnex had been completed, then it would have been clear that public funds should have been spent on improving public transport instead."

As the name of the inquiry suggests, this was merely focussed on the impacts, not on the deeper question of why, and who is responsible for, this biggest misallocation of public funds for private gain in Australia's history.

To answer these questions, we need a Royal Commssion with a wider scope, and to hear from Nick Greiner, Barry O'Farrell, Mike Baird and others central to the decision making.

In the meantime, there are a few things you can do.
