Exxon/SABIC Public Hearings & Abatement Votes- March 20th & 21st

We wanted to update you on important events coming up VERY quickly! March 20th San Patricio County Court House – Public Hearing for Exxon/SABIC Reinvestment Zone. The San Patricio County Commissioners will hold a public hearing to designate the proposed site of the Exxon/SABIC petrochemical complex as a reinvestment zone. The area has been designated as a reinvestment zone eligible for tax abatements since August 2016. However, it was done with very little public notice and zero public comment. March 20th is a DO OVER! This is your chance to be heard. If the reinvestment zone is voted down by commissioners on March 20th, then Exxon/SABIC will NOT be eligible for tax abatements at that site. However, County Commissioners will vote on tax abatements for Exxon/SABIC at this same meeting if the "Reinvestment Zone" passes. The public hearing and meeting will take place at the San Patricio County Courthouse in Sinton at 9am on Monday, March 20th. The meeting will get started promptly at 9am and space is limited in the 2nd Floor County Commissioners Court Chambers so be sure to get there early if you would like to be heard. We expect the room to fill to max occupancy. Tuesday, March 21st Gregory-Portland ISD Board Meeting - Exxon/SABIC Public Hearing & Abatement Vote. The Gregory-Portland ISD School Board will hold a Public Hearing on abatements for Exxon/SABIC. Then they will vote on abatements for Exxon/SABIC if County Commissioners approve the "Reinvestment Zone" the day before. The meeting will be at 6pm at the GPISD Training Center next to the new East Cliff Elementary on Broadway. Exxon officials have stated they would like to announce site selection by 3/31. It looks like Exxon will know whether they have tax abatements by that date. It is very important to show up to this meeting and wear RED. You do not have to speak, but please join us there.
