The Issue
My wonderful husband Neil was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2005 when my oldest daughter was had just turned 7 & my younger was going to be 4 yrs old the following month. He fought for his life harder than anyone I have ever seen before and hopefully I will never have to see again. He had two Bone Marrow transplants in 2006 after back surgery to repair 7 fractured vertebrae. He continued with chemo then had two more bone marrow transplants in 2013 numerous surgeries & lengthy hospital stays. He was a strong man with a great sense of humor and worked diligently and with passion running a local HVAC company that he opened in 1991 the year we were married. One thing a lot of people did not know about Neil was he was extremely clean and often took two showers a day, insisted on doing his own laundry and changed the bed linens nightly. By now you must be wondering why I have started this Chang.org petition. My husband had a few simple request when he realized that his time here was coming to an end. That I take care of his daughters, his customers & that if we could afford it that he be placed in a clean mausoleum, up high enough not to tough the floor. Yes I know a little strange for a man who spent years climbing in and out of crawl spaces & attics installing and repairing heating and air-conditioning units. But I honored his wishes and was guaranteed the mausoleum at Woodbine in Oceanport NJ would be kept clean, dry, & well ventilated. They even boost about it on all there web sites and brochures. But that they DONT DO!
"Our mausoleum offers the assurance of above ground, dry, ventilated entombment. The rich colored marble, imported from Italy and honed to a satin finish gives a friendly feeling of warmth and comfort. The mausoleum is scientifically designed and built by nationally known mausoleum experts using the most enduring materials. Here your memories are enshrined and your family name honored for all time."
"Woodbine Cemetery and Mausoleum staff care for the grounds as well as individuals who enter the property."
Well you can't imagine the how upsetting it was for my daughters & I when visiting there site of my beloved husband entombment less then a year later only to find the celling filled with cracks and what looked to be black mold the cover on one of the lights has been missing for months and there were several bad stains in the rugs indicating when the water came through to the roof & gathered on the floor for sometime. Even the fake plants have not been dusted for some time. What happened to daily upkeep? There
When I called the office the next day I was told they were re-molding and all would be repairs would taken care of shortly. Three months later still no chance whatsoever! I have called several times and I was told they were getting estimates for repairs, and other excuses finally last week I was told to right the owner Mr. Gregg Kunkowski a letter. Back to square one, what happened to the remolding? What happened to the repairs? Last Friday I went there with my lawyer to discuss moving my husbands remains because there was still no change and now they are telling me there will be a cost to have his remains moved to another building a short walk away. You see I don't want to leave Woodbine because my grandmother, my grandfather my mother, & uncle have already been either buried or are in the mausoleum there. My father & I even have a crypts waiting. I did find out was they have plans to build another mausoleum and Mr. Gregg Kunkowski does not even live in NJ , when was the last time he was ever even at the Cemetery. Whenever it was this was not soon enough so that's why I am asking you to sign this petition and for them to honor there promises to keep the resting place of my husband & many others clean & safe.
