As the coronavirus cases rise in Texas new problems arise in 2020-2021 school year. Students and teachers in Texas face going back to campus unprepared and unprotected in just under 2 months.  Greg Abbot has failed to protect our great state and now he puts our children in harms way. Greg Abbott has mandated masks but they aren’t required for children under 10. Which puts teachers at risk.  Classrooms in Texas are already so small, no room for students to social distance 6ft. What about are immune compromised students and teachers? Who is thinking about keeping them safe? 

This is why we must act to protect our students and school staff. The students  or staff shouldn’t be required to go back on campus until cases start to die down. With flu season coming back around , this fall is scheduled to be the deadliest season yet. Can you imagine how much the schools will have to close when they have to close the school to clean?  This is why we need to petition against Greg Abbott and the TEA commissioner. 

As a teacher myself I am not only thinking about my precious students but my family also. Imagine a student catching the virus from school and then giving it his grandmother or parent that they live with and they don’t make It. This is our heartbreaking reality. I understand that school is a safe place for students and would be ideal for the students to go back but this is a pandemic. Unfortunately times are not how they used to be. I am not saying to never return to school but to give the coronavirus cases time to go down before beginning on campus school.
