Stop products that have been tested on animals from being sold in New Zealand
The issue
Cosmetic testing on animals is typically the testing of skin and eye products on animals to determine the safety of the products for human usage. Typically animal testing is where “chemicals are rubbed onto the shaved skin or dripped into the eyes of rabbits; repeated oral force-feeding studies lasting weeks or months to look for signs of general illness or specific health hazards, such as cancer or birth defects.” These tests are extremely harmful for the animals involved, an estimated 100,000-200,000 animals are used in cosmetic testing every year, and all end up being murdered at the end of the tests, that is if they don’t already die during the testing.
We are happy to know under the 2015 amendment to the animal welfare act cosmetic testing on animals in New Zealand was banned, however, this amendment doesn’t stop products being imported into New Zealand that have been tested on animals overseas. This is an issue we feel strongly about and want to take action on as we want it to become illegal for any products that have been tested on animals overseas to be imported into New Zealand.
