"Vital Grandin" school was named after Bishop Vital-Justin Grandin, one of the main architects of the Residential School system in Canada.

A quote from Bishop Grandin: "We instill in them a pronounced dictate for the native life so that they will be humiliated when reminded of their origin. When they gradate from our institutions, the children have lost everything Native except their blood."

From the Truth and Reconciliation report: Grandin took his case directly to Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald, saying that the Oblate success with schooling had been so great that, upon graduating, students so wished to live as Europeans that they refused to accept any grants intended for Aboriginal people.

His name can no longer be celebrated by naming a the school after him. His complicity in cultural genocide is clear.
