The new section of the Northern Memorial Park, off May Street in Glenroy, has mesh type netting surrounding the ponds.

These nets are separating baby ducklings from their mothers and they cannot find their way back to one another.

You can find an article on a similar situation at another wildlife park here:

A mother duck started with 9 ducklings. She is now down to 4 as they cannot make their way back to her. She relentlessly swims up and down the edge of the netting alongside her ducklings. She even climbs the netting above them in an attempt to get to her babies. They are clearly stressed out.

  • I believe these nets may be to protect marine and plant life within these ponds, however, if openings were created in these nets, all species should be able to live happily within the ponds. Springtime is here, and more ducklings will be waddling around these ponds soon. Please sign this petition if you're in favour of removing or changing these nets and helping mother duck and her bubs.
