Yesterday (23/10/15) we had a peaceful and civilised protest at the new Southern General Hospital. Despite Stewart McDonald (SNP) MP's attempt to demean our protest by tabling a motion in the House of Commons (see my blog for the full story https://johnsharpbeattie.wordpress.com/2015/10/23/stewart-mcdonald-mp-snp-what-was-his-real-motive/), everything went very well.
I will write to the First Minister one final time. I have seen lots of SNP members have been very critical of the Scottish Government's lack of willingness to engage with the issue and allow the people to vote on a name, like they did with the Forth Crossing.
Many questions still go unanswered (https://johnsharpbeattie.wordpress.com/2015/10/11/why-naming-the-new-southern-general-hospital-after-a-monarch-is-wrong/) and there are now more questions regarding the real costs of the rebranding.
From my experience throughout this whole process I have become quite disillusioned with the Scottish Government, and the SNP in general. Quite a few of their elected representatives all condemn the renaming yet won't speak out. The whole saga has been a very sad state of affairs. It is just a shame that no one in Scottish Government is willing to intervene and overrule a decision made by an unelected man to name a publicly funded hospital after a beacon of inequality.
The protest was covered by The National (http://www.thenational.scot/news/protesters-bid-for-u-turn-on-hospitals-royal-naming.9144) and Independence Live (http://livestream.com/accounts/6163639/events/4443504). Many thanks to them.
