Residents of Newmarket, Dullingham and villages have been affected by ongoing train issues since May 2019. This is getting worse. Passengers regularly travel in toilets, there is severe overcrowding or, worse, they are not able to board the train. There seems to be no acknowledgement by Greater Anglia that there are regular train users who are not allowed to board the train for whom they have an obligation to provide replacement services, citing the ‘walk-on’ nature of the service. This is not true as they know 3 carriage trains are overcrowded and therefore 1 or 2 carriages will be impossible to board for 20-30 passengers at peak times. They know at least an hour before the train is due at Newmarket and Dullingham and therefore should provide either a replacement bus service or taxis or provide an additional service between Newmarket and Cambridge. They should also cover consequential losses including wage losses. Moreover they should seek to resolve the situation which has been created by the catastrophically poor management by Greater Anglia as soon as possible.
