GREAT BRETAIN, FRANCE AND DEUTSCHLAND, RESTORE CAMEROUNIAN KNOWLEDGE

CALL FOR THE RESTITUTION OF KNOWLEDGE

The Cameroonian personalities, youth and elders, joint with NDAP YIGIL Association, to call on the governments of the Federal Republic of Germany, the French Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain, respectively "colonizers" of Cameroon in the period going from 1884 to 1916 (for the Federal Republic of Germany), and from 1916 to 1960/1961 (for the French Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain), to proceed to the RESTITUTION of the KNOWLEDGE produced and collected within and on the Territory of what will become the present Republic of Cameroon during all the above-mentioned periods.

This call aims at the repatriation of originals and/or digitized copies of all written documents (notes, letters, communiqués, newspapers, reports, administrative texts, etc.), and audiovisuals produced during the periods concerned in relation to the organization and management of the Territory. The aim is to give current and future generations of Cameroonians, who, although they did not experience "colonization", have and will continue to experience its effects, the opportunity and the means to come into possession of these materials, to explore and understand this period, based on primary data produced by and about contemporary actors.

We therefore call for the shared writing of this common history, with for foundations the recognition and the respect of all the views and experiences, in a multicentric approach, and the sincere dialogue of these differences. This requires for all the heirs of this colonial history, a free and total access to the documents which allow to carry an accurate discourse on this period, but also to draw from their exploitation, knowledge and skills which give an account of their singular experiences and perspectives. A library project open to all is already being developed to facilitate the reception and access to these documents.

NDAP YIGIL Association calls for the support of all for the success of this initiative and invites all Africans to support or follow the same path so that the information and knowledge concerning the Africa, preserved in Europe and everywhere else, can return to the continent and contribute to its integral development.

 

APPEL À LA RESTITUTION DES SAVOIRS

Les personnalités camerounaises, jeunes et moins jeunes, ci-dessous réunies autour de l’Association NDAP YIGIL, appellent les gouvernements de la République Fédérale d’Allemagne, de la République Française et du Royaume Uni de Grande Bretagne, respectivement "colonisateurs" du Cameroun dans la période allant de 1884 à 1916 (pour la République Fédérale d’Allemagne ), et de 1916 à 1960/1961 (pour la République Française et du Royaume Uni de Grande Bretagne), à procéder à la RESTITUTION DES SAVOIRS ET CONNAISSANCES produits et collectés au sein et sur le Territoire de ce qui deviendra l’actuelle République du Cameroun sur toutes les périodes sus-citées.

Cet appel vise au rapatriement des originaux et/ou des copies numérisées de l’ensemble des documents écrits (notes, lettres, communiqués, journaux, rapports, textes administratifs, etc.), et audiovisuels produits sur les périodes concernées relativement à l’organisation et à la gestion du Territoire. Il s’agira par ce moyen, de donner aux générations actuelles et futures de camerounaises et de camerounais, qui bien que n’ayant pas connues la « colonisation » font et sont appelés à faire l’expérience de ses effets, l’opportunité et les moyens d’entrer en possession de ces matériaux, d’explorer et de comprendre cette période, à partir des données primaires produites par et sur les acteurs contemporains.

Nous appelons donc à l’écriture partagée de cette histoire commune, avec pour fondements la reconnaissance et le respect de tous les regards et expériences, dans une approche multicentrique, et le dialogue sincère de ces différences. Ce qui exige pour toutes les héritières et tous les héritiers de cette histoire coloniale, un accès libre et total aux documents qui permettent de porter un discours juste sur cette période, mais aussi de tirer de leur exploitation, des savoirs et connaissances qui rendent compte de leurs expériences et perspectives singulières. Un projet de Bibliothèque ouverte à toute et à tous, est déjà en cours d’élaboration afin de faciliter l’accueil et l’accès à ces documents.

L’Association NDAP YIGIL en appelle au soutien de toutes et de tous pour le succès de cette démarche et invite les africaines et africains de tous les pays anciennement territoires coloniaux ou non, à suivre ou à soutenir la même voie afin que les informations et connaissances concernant le continent africain, conservés en Europe partout ailleurs, puissent revenir sur le continent et contribuer à son développement intégral
