South Granville High School has been a part of our community since 1962, and there is so much history and emotion that has touched the thousands of students who have passed through it's hallowed halls for the past 60 years. There are many reasons why one would want to keep South Granville High School right where it is. From all the sports championships and accolades to a lot of dedicated staff potentially losing their jobs because of the merge are only a few of those reasons.

All South Granville High School sports have the classic rivalries with J.F. Webb and Central. These rivalries have been around since Webb's founding in 1964, and the other since Central's founding in 2007. Decisions will have to be made on dozens of teachers and coaches jobs because there are not enough positions for all of them with one consolidated high school. This merge will also affect many of the students because their lives will completely change. They will lose everything they have been building in school, mainly school spirit, and have to start over somewhere else completely new. South Granville High School has been designated as the School of the Arts for, and by, Granville County Public Schools. The Arts programs, which include the Band, Chorus and Fine Arts programs, have grown a lot over the past decade and are making tremendous strides for the future.

If this merge actually happens, nothing will ever be the same for the students, staff, alumni and the community as it was at South Granville. South Granville is like a second home for the students and faculty. What a great tragedy that students who have attended South Granville for their entire high school career will not graduate in Columbia blue. 

This is why we respectfully request and urge the Granville County Board of Education to reconsider the vote for merger of South Granville High School and Granville Central High School into one!
