The narrative of this plea starts with a personal story. A close friend was given a unique hoodie by his grand-father before his passing. Wearing this hoodie to school provides a sense of safety and comfort, serving as a sentimental piece that reminds him of his grand-father's warmth. However, the current dress code at Forney Independent School District (ISD) prohibits students from wearing hoodies during school hours.

The dress code should reflect the culture and the emotional needs of the students. Multiple academic studies have shown that when students feel more comfortable, they are more likely to focus better and perform academically. According to Majid A. AlHumaid, in his research published in the Journal of Education and Practice, there is a significant relationship between comfort and academic achievement.

We request Forney ISD to reconsider their policy, recognizing that restrictive dress codes can unintentionally harm students' well-being. We believe a student-friendly dress code can support both the students' comfort and the educational objectives of the school.
