A charter school is a tuition free public school open to all interested residents.  

South Shore Charter School is a proposed public Charter School seeking to open in Central Islip, NY. We will also serve students from Brentwood, Bay Shore, and other neighboring communities. Once approved, South Shore will be the first charter school in the area. We will be applying to the Board of Regents and we need your help to ensure the success of our application. 

We need 10,000 people to sign this petition because they believe in making a difference in the lives of students living in Central Islip, Brentwood, Bay Shore, and other neighboring communities. We need partners to advocate for students to have access to high quality education in a safe learning environment. 

The parents of Central Islip and surrounding communities are seeking a high quality alternative. They are dissatisfied with the current educational landscape. The proposed South Shore Charter School seeks to provide a high quality option for students and families. We will set high academic and behavioral expectations, and offer a STEM-based curriculum that is aligned to State Standards. Our model will meet the safety needs of students and exceed the expectations of parents. Our educational program will deliver student performances above the state average. South Shore Charter School will offer:

• Academic Rigor to Prepare Students for College
• Students In Uniform to Keep the Focus on Learning
• A Robust ENL Program 
• An Inclusive Special Education Program
• Increased ELA and Math Instructional Minutes
• Enrichment Clubs (including a debate team in the upper grades)
• An emphasis on art and music
• Implementation of a STEM curriculum
• Student Centered Learning
• Excellent Teaching From Experienced & Committed Staff
• Extended Learning Time (School Day: 7:45am- 4:00pm)
• Additional Learning Opportunities (Free After School 4:00pm- 5:00pm)
