Rail links to Hull are among the poorest in the north of England, with train service reliability of 60 per cent or lower. Currently, it is quicker to travel between Leeds and Hull by road.

Electrification will permit cleaner, faster, and more reliable trains to run in and out of Hull. When viewing proposals for Leeds to Hull, it ultimately gives Hull residents and businesses better access to more opportunities – 1.7 million more people and 49,000 additional businesses will be within two hours of Hull.

Electrifying the Leeds to Hull route via Selby, and significantly upgrading the railway line between Sheffield and Hull via Goole, should be a priority.
