Improve the lives of residents by introducing a CPZ parking arrangement in Commerce Road
The Issue
The parking situation on Commerce Road is under significant pressure to the point where local residents are unable to have visitors who have to drive come and visit.
There is currently limited restrictions on the public areas of the road meaning that anyone can park here, yet the commercial premises all operate hardball private parking company fining systems.
All of the commercial premises have their own parking spaces on their own land although not all are used. Therefore we do not believe that creating a residents and visitor Controlled Parking Zone, as employed across the rest of the borough and London in areas of parking stress, will cause any economic harm to businesses.
However allowing residents to employ a permit system would drastically improve the situation for local residents and their visitors and contractors.
With the stadium development, current construction and proposed construction coming up the parking situation will be under even more pressure. We appear to be the only road with hundreds of residents living on it, with a free for all parking situation outside. Twickenham with it's stadium has a CPZ parking arrangement, and we believe that Brentford should have the same, given that people can also commute here, park on commerce road and surrounding areas and then use Brentford/Syon lane stations to travel from.
Until the bridge is built connecting us to the railway station it is unrealistic to expect people with mobility issues or trying to push a pushchair to never drive, and the bus's are often at full capacity for wheelchairs and pushchair users too.
The development on Brentford Lock West (BLW) has around 12 spaces serving hundreds of flats and is also usually at full capacity. 3 spaces are reserved from disabled use and yet they are mostly empty. Fines are often given based on the private firm earning income rather than managing the parking facilities on the estate.
Residents are trying to be environmentally responsible and use online supermarket shopping with green slots for example, as we don't have many supermarkets within walking distance, but our drivers are getting ticketed just for trying to deliver food deliveries. A permit system that operates 8.30am -6.30pm would help us manage this too as we could schedule deliveries for after 6.30pm. Currently the private parking companies operate 24/7 and do not allow residents to park on both sides of the road (public highway) even when the commercial premises are closed on the weekends and overnight.
There also seems to be one rule for the industrial sites and parking long term and another for residents and visitors where we have a restricted timing arrangement.
Please can you sign this petition so that at least we have a fair review of what can be done to help this situation and long term resident needs.
Thanks
