Good afternoon ladies and gents, I sincerely hope that you were blessed with the Christmas that you had hoped for. I would like to start by thanking everyone that wrote to Chief Superintendent Tim Jackson QPM., BA(Hons)., FCMI - National Secretary of the Police Superintendents Association of England and Wales. I know that he has found it useful to hear about the impact that current government policy regarding the 1987 police pension regulations has upon you and your relationships. Moving forward – your next assignment should you wish to accept it! You will recall that during our meeting with Mr Nazir Afzal (CEO of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners) on October 26th 2016 - he said that he, “Shares our concerns at the perceived inequity of the situation and has promised to make PCCs aware of these concerns through their Workforce Lead.” He thinks we have, “...... a very principled position and hopes that PCCs will be able to consider a way forward with ministers. He hopes that raising awareness will lead to a positive outcome.” He also promised that we would meet again, “Early in the new year...” to take stock of any developments. We now have a date for that meeting. I will be joined by Mick Hume (Police Federation England and Wales) on the 9th March for the meeting with Mr Afzal at his offices in central London. In the meantime please consider writing to your Police and Crime Commissioner if you haven't already done so. It is part of a Police and Crime Commissioner's responsibilities to set their force budget and this is why I view their role in our campaign as vitally important. Include details of Mr Afzal's undertaking and let your PCC know the impact that the 1987 police pension regulations have upon you personally. If you have been in touch with your MP and/or your force Chief Constable and they are supportive include that in your email. Ideally our campaigning will see MPs, the Police and Crime Commissioner and Chief Constable of each force area working in a coordinated fashion when approaching the Home Office. I have produced a briefing document outlining the course of the campaign thus far; Mr Afzal took time to read it and to undertake further associated research and hopefully your PCC will too. Please email me for a copy. My preparation for the meeting will include compiling a list of all MPs that have been contacted via our campaign and whether or not they were/remain supportive of our cause. I have made several abortive attempts at what really is a mammoth task, and so I am appealing for your help in order to preserve what remains of my sanity. Therefore, if you have contacted your MP (and post general election they remain your MP) please let me know/remind me of the outcome and the date of your communications with them. Give your email the title 'Update January 2017' and let me know also if you have contacted your PCC, Chief Constable, NARPO, Police Federation Rep etc. and what they have done/promised to do on your behalf. Can you include their name, constituency, force etc. Not everyone includes their name in their email address – an email from snugglebunny@outlook.com and signed 'Reg' may require some extensive detective work on my part to confirm 'Reg's' identity. If your email does not include your full name please include your personal details whether or not you have contacted me before - as this too will save a great deal of time. Thank you as always for your hard work and support. Best wishes, Cathryn CathrynHall@outlook.com
