Grant Planning Permission for Kneller Hall to become a local school

Grant Planning Permission for Kneller Hall to become a local school
The Issue
Kneller Hall is a Grade II listed building, previously home to the Royal Military School of Music. It closed its doors in 2021 and has been sitting empty & unkempt since then. The proposal is to use this incredible site with acres of land as a school.
The proposed plans are very sensitive to the origins and history of the building, as well as the maintenance and improvement of the grounds. There are plans in place for tree planting, landscaping and a forest school all with the ecology of the local wildlife in mind. The renovations will bring this beautiful site back to life and be a fantastic resource not just for the school children who attend but also to the wider community. There is an extensive community use strategy bringing much-needed sports facilities to the local area.
We urge the council to grant permission to this site without further delay so that hundreds of children will be able to use the space which is currently sitting empty.
There is a grave lack of school spaces in the borough, with the Department for Education estimating a 20% increase in the number of secondary school children on the horizon. This proposal will give hundreds of children the opportunity to use the space to learn and play. It is a shame to let a site like this sit empty when our children desperately need the outdoor space and facilities.
The council must not consider this proposal as just another development but as an investment in the future of our children and the local community.
