Grant pets one more chance - illegalize euthanizing shelter pets!!
The Issue
Dogs and cats... domesticated by humans to be our best friends. Look at your beloved pet, right now. Snuggled up and happy to have a home, with no fear of dying cold and alone in a shelter.
Unfortunately for millions of dogs and cats, this was never an option. For hundreds of thousands, it never will be. Why? Because cruel corporates care more about money than the animals.
Kill "shelters" are the reason animals never get a chance. When an animal is in a kill shelter for a certain amount of time, the same people who swore to care for the pet that was brought in MURDER them without a second thought. The ASPCA reports that 920,000 shelter pets are euthanized every year.
These shelters claim to kill these poor animals who never felt love because of "space issues" and other reasons like "unwanted animals". But...are they really unwanted?
No. akitarescue.com states "If your dog doesn't get adopted within its 72 hours and the shelter is full, it will be destroyed. If the shelter isn't full and your dog is good enough, and of a desirable enough breed, it may get a stay of execution, though not for long." 72 hours. That is 3 days. 3 days for a dog to find a home. That sounds nearly impossible, right? Because it is.
Teenagers in foster care and adoption systems are often "unwanted" too, but we don't murder them! Our planet's population is ALWAYS growing, but we never execute people for it... We either ignore it or put a childbirth limit. Yet when it comes to animals WE created, to be our loyal friend by our side, we kill them. We don't make laws to mandate spaying or neutering pets...we just kill ones that haven't had a chance.
If we can go to the United States government, and make them pass a series of laws to illegalize euthanizing animals, while mandating spaying/neutering animals not belonging to certified breeders, we can solve two issues at once: the overpopulation of animals in shelters AND the countless murder of unwanted animals.
