The Issue

Our community needs your support for a man who made a single mistake in the justice system, Felipe Angel Perez Jr , but has otherwise led a lawful existence – he is a young dad, just 25 years old, serving an 8-year sentence for tampering with evidence and has now served 1 years , 11 months and 20 days . His devoted family long for his presence, his 2-year-old son barely understands why dad can't play with him, and his 4-month-old daughter hasn't yet seen her father's loving embrace.

Conditioned by everything from media portrayals to accumulated societal fears, we tend to view imprisonment as solely fitting. However, according to Northwestern Prison Education Program, about 95% of all people incarcerated in state prisons are released back into their communities. It is key that rather than focusing only on punitive measures, we ensure they're able to adapt to society for their own benefit and for society overall.

This is not an appeal to disregard his offence; rather, it is a plea to consider mitigating circumstances for this first-time offender and to evaluate the fairness of an 8-year sentence for evidence tampering. Let's give this father a chance to restore his life and be there for his children, who are growing up faster than he can witness behind bars.

We ask citizens, the parole board, and all those with a voice to join us in advocating for a second chance. Please sign this petition, urging the parole board to reconsider granting him parole. It is not only about one man's life and freedom; it is about a future for two innocent children. This is an opportunity to change a family's life, and to uphold the principles of justice and fairness that we hold dear. Your signature can bring this man home.
