For many, having a pet in their home is not just about companionship, but also about mental well-being. Yet, the majority of leasehold agreements include a 'No Pets' clause, preventing flat owners from enjoying their pet's company. This sector accounts for a considerable portion of housing with approximately 4.3 million leasehold homes in England alone, stated by a report from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. This presents a significant part of the population that may be denied the right to pet ownership. Primarily, we propose changes to allow indoor pets, which do not impact communal areas and are often smaller and require less space. It's time to reconsider these clauses, taking into account the benefits of pet ownership and the insignificant impact of indoor pets on the community.
