Grant Keith Johnson clemency and pardon in Virginia
The Issue
Give Keith Johnson a Second Chance: Support His Request for Clemency and Pardon in Virginia
To the Governor of Virginia and the Virginia Clemency Authorities:
We are asking you to support Keith Johnson’s request for clemency and pardon and to recognize the person he has worked to become over the years. Keith has been incarcerated since December 2008. During nearly two decades of incarceration, he has used his time to take responsibility for his past, make meaningful changes in his life, and prepare himself for a productive future outside of prison. This petition is not asking anyone to erase the past or ignore the seriousness of his convictions. It is asking that his growth, rehabilitation, character, and nearly 18 years of incarceration be considered when determining whether he deserves another opportunity.
Keith Has Used His Time to Change
While incarcerated, Keith has worked to better himself through education, employment, counseling, and programs designed to address the decisions and behaviors that contributed to his incarceration. His rehabilitation efforts include:
- Anger Management
- Thinking for a Change
- Victim Impact
- Inside/Outside Dad
- Paralegal certification
- Working as an inmate advisor since 2017
- Commissary work
- Houseman 3
- Barber work
- Maintaining approximately 13 years without disciplinary issues
These accomplishments demonstrate more than simply serving time. They demonstrate a continued effort to learn, mature, develop skills, and become a better member of society. He deserves the opportunity to come home.
Keith has spent a significant portion of his adult life incarcerated. Time has changed him, and he has demonstrated through his actions that he is capable of making better choices and contributing positively to his family and community. Clemency is an opportunity to recognize rehabilitation and give someone who has demonstrated meaningful change the chance to rebuild their life. We believe Keith deserves that opportunity.
We ask the Commonwealth of Virginia to look beyond the person Keith was when he entered prison and carefully consider the person he has become. We Are Asking for Your Support.
If you believe that people can change…
If you believe rehabilitation should matter…
If you believe that accountability can exist alongside forgiveness…
If you believe someone who has worked to transform their life deserves a second chance…
