Grant K9 Echo Retirement with Handler Lieutenant John Gomez

Grant K9 Echo Retirement with Handler Lieutenant John Gomez
The Issue
K9 Echo has been a loyal and dedicated member of the Brooks County, TX law enforcement community, serving dutifully for what amounts to nearly 50 dog years. This faithful German Shepherd has lived with his handler, Lieutenant John Gomez, for 7 years, forming an unbreakable bond and becoming an integral part of his family. Unfortunately, K9 Echo is now facing the challenge of being separated from his home. This experience is not only distressing for Echo but also for those who love and care for him.
Being more than just K9 Officers, dogs like Echo are sentient beings, capable of deep emotional connections. This sentiment fuels this petition, as we insist on the respect and consideration they deserve for their years of service. The current regulation in place neglects this fact and caters to a system which doesn't recognize their emotional capacities and needs.
German Shepherds have an average lifespan of 9-13 years. Each moment is precious to them and to those they serve. Separating K9 Echo from Lieutenant Gomez after a lifetime of shared experiences is inhumane and unnecessary.
We are requesting the Brooks County grant K9 Echo a well-deserved peaceful retirement alongside his longtime handler, Lieutenant Gomez. This decision will validate the successes of their partnership, demonstrate empathy towards animals in our communities, and reaffirm our value for their service. Please join us in this campaign and sign this petition to secure a happy and comfortable retirement for K9 Echo.
