Grant Homeless Individuals Legal Access to Old Santa Fe for Shelter
The Issue
I, along with many others, interact and stand alongside our friends in the homeless community frequently. Seeing them forcibly evicted from their makeshift shelters every other week by local law enforcement is heartbreaking. With every eviction, they are left with no place to go, no safe haven to call their own. The reality of their plight is evident in how little control they have over their living circumstances.
One such unoccupied area exists, Old Santa Fe, which we believe to be an ideal location for their dwelling. It is unused, unoccupied, and could provide a crucial refuge for our friends battling homelessness.
According to EndHomelessness.org, on a single night in 2020, "580,466 people were experiencing homelessness in the United States." With this alarming rate of homelessness, it is only fair and human to allow the underprivileged ones a place to stay and live, at least until a more permanent solution is found.
We are not asking for a permanent lodging; we are simply asking for human dignity and compassion. We are asking for a place where our friends, the homeless, can find a modicum of stability and safety from the weather and the world.
Please join us in this fight for the dignity of our friends. Please support our call for legal access to Old Santa Fe for the homeless. Please sign the petition and make a difference in the lives of the homeless.
