My daughter, in an attempt to hurt me over adult issues that have nothing to do with our grandchildren, has taken my granddaughters away from me. It's heartbreaking to think that in Idaho, grandparents have been stripped of their rights to maintain a significant presence in their grandchildren's lives. These disputes, which should solely concern adults, end up emotionally impacting the children who have no fault in these matters.

In Idaho, the removal of specific rights for grandparents means that many who are good, loving, and positive influences in their grandchildren's lives are being unfairly penalized. It's time we reassess this situation to prioritize the well-being of children and the importance of family bonds. Rather than restricting visits to a few hours here and there, we propose that grandparents should be entitled to a minimum of three nights and four days a month. This would allow for meaningful interaction and help foster strong, loving relationships that promote the child's emotional and social development.

There are countless cases around the world showing the positive impact and stability that involved grandparents provide, acting as role models, providing mentorship, and offering a listening ear in times of distress. Grandparents often play a crucial role in a child’s upbringing and personal development.

Moreover, according to studies, children with strong family connections, including extended families, tend to perform better academically, are more mobile emotionally, and have greater self-confidence. By revising the laws in Idaho to support grandparents' rights, we can ensure children benefit from these supportive family structures.

I urge the state legislators to amend the existing regulations to include these provisions unless there's a valid reason for denial, such as grandparents being unsafe or having criminal records. It's unjust for loving grandparents to be denied their chance to impact their grandchildren's lives positively.
