The Issue

In 2020, a horrifying incident unfolded in our family. A six-year-old girl, the daughter of my daughter's fiance, was sexually assaulted by her biological mother and the mother's boyfriend. This horrific act wasn't limited to molestation; it also included rape charges against these individuals. The evidence was overwhelming with hundreds of photos and videos implicating them in this heinous crime.

The perpetrators were rightfully sentenced - the mother received life imprisonment with a chance for parole after 30 years while her boyfriend was handed three life sentences without parole. However, what remains is a painful reminder for the innocent spouse who is still legally bound to one of these criminals.

This petition seeks justice not only for victims but also for those indirectly affected by such monstrous acts. We are calling on our legal system to grant free divorces to spouses of individuals convicted of sexual crimes against children.

According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), every nine minutes child protective services substantiates or finds evidence for a claim of child sexual abuse[1]. These statistics are alarming and highlight an urgent need for change in how we support survivors and their families.

We believe that no one should bear financial burden or legal complexities when trying to separate from someone guilty of such an atrocious crime against humanity. Let us stand together as a community advocating for this necessary change in our divorce courts' policies.

Please sign this petition today and help us bring about this much-needed reform.
